(Genesis 3:1) "Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"

Introduction: Ephesians 6:11,16

(Ephesians 6:11) "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

(Ephesians 6:16) "Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."

1. The Character Of Satan

A. Devourer (1 Peter 5:8)

(1 Peter 5:8) "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

B. Accuser (Revelation 12:10)

(Revelation 12:10) "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night."

C. Powerful (Ephesians 2:2,6:12)

(Ephesians 2:2) "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:"

(Ephesians 6:12) "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

D. Wicked (Job 1:9,2:4)

(Job 1:9) "Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?"

(Job 2:4) "And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life."

E. Deceitful (2 Cor. 11:14, Eph. 6:11)

(2 Corinthians 11:14) "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

(Ephesians 6:11) "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

F. Fierce and Cruel ( Luke 8:29, Luke 9:39,42)

(Luke 8:29) "(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)"

(Luke 9:39) "And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him."

(Luke 9:42) "And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father."

Many in the church will quarrel, but did you ever hear that the devil and his confederates quarrel.

D. Times in which he attacks us

1. During a time of spiritual high

3. The Christians Safeguard

A. Submit to God (James 4:7)

(James 4:7) "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

B. Resist

C. Bring to God what is rightfully His (Mal. 3:10,11)

(Malachi 3:10-11) "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. {11} And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts."
