Text Verse: Exodus 32:4

(Exo 32:4) "And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt."

Introduction:

Review the scene and setting

Moses was up in the mountain receiving the ten commandments, and Aaron was waiting patiently on the man of God at the foot of the mount.

1. The People

A. Restless

B. Reasoned (Was wondering where Moses was)

C. Requested (Make us a god)

2. The Priest (Aaron) Vs. 2

A. Rambunctious

1. Never stayed at the mount where he had been instructed to stay.

2. Never prayed about the request or his response to the people.

3. Was a follower instead of being a leader.

B. Responded

1. To the desires of the people.

C. Rallied

3. The Perfecting Vs. 4

Many today are trying to perfect their idol.

It was bad enough that Aaron the priest had done such a thing but now he is trying to perfect it.

A. Rationalize their wrong.

B. Restructured it's meaning.

1. Drunkenness to Alcoholism

2. Sodomy to Gay

3. Murder to Abortion & Choice

C. Reverse Right & Wrong

(Isa 5:20-21) "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! {21} Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"

D. Reverence Wrong

(Exo 32:5-6) "And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. {6} And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings,......"

4. The Playing (Lewdness)

(Exo 32:6) "And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play."

(Exo 32:25) "And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)"

Results from perfecting our golden calves.

5. The Perjury

(Exo 32:22-24) "And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief. {23} For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. {24} And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf."

6. The Proclamation

(Exo 32:26) "Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him."

A. We too must choose which side we are on

7. The Punishment

A. People

1. Perished (3000) died that day

2. Plagued vs 35

B. Priest

1. Prevented from becoming the next leader.

2. Prevented from seeing the promise land.
