Text Verse:  Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15

Introduction

As we look I want us to see the real mission of this commission. Webster defines commission as this: To send with a mandate or authority.

1. The Mandate

A. Authoritative Mandate

1. Christ gave it. (28:18)

B. Active Mandate

1. Go

a. Matt. 28:19,20

b. Mark 16:15

c. Acts 5:20

C. Absolute Mandate

1. Let's know exactly what to do.

a. Go

b. Teach

c. Make disciples

2. The Motive

A. Must be pure before God.

(1 Th 2:3-6 KJV) "For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: {4} But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. {5} For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness: {6} Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ."

1. Never to please men

2. Must not be for personal gain.

B. Patterned after Christ

1. Sought the lost

a. Knew their destiny

2. Obedient to God

3. Knew the shortness of time.

(John 4:35 KJV) "Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."

3. The Message

A. Is the Gospel

1. Mark 16:15

2. 1 Cor. 15:1-4

(Eph 6:18-20 KJV) "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; {19} And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, {20} For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."

4. The Messengers

A. Is supposed to be everyone that is saved.

(Mat 4:19 KJV) "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

(Mark 1:17 KJV) "And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men."

1. Were already following the Lord.

5. The Methods

A. Personal Soul Winning

(Prov 11:30 KJV) "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise."

1. Home and Abroad

B. Church Planting

(Acts 2:41 KJV) "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

(Acts 2:47 KJV) "Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

(Acts 5:14 KJV) "And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)"

(Acts 11:24 KJV) "For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord."

Close:

The mission of the commission is soul winning. The mandate is an authoritative, active, and absolute mandate. The motive must be pure, and Christ like. The message is the Gospel. The messengers are those who are saved, and the method is personal soul winning, and church planting both home and abroad.
