Text Verse:  Mark 4:24

"And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given."

Introduction:

Much is made of preaching today, but we have attention here drawn to what and how we hear. The art of attention is as difficult as that of homiletics.

Notice:

1. Here Is A Precept

(Mark 4:24) "And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given."

A. Hear with discrimination, shunning false doctrines.

(John 10:5) "And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers."

B. Hear with attention; really and enestly hearing.

(Matthew 13:23) "But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

C. Hear retentively endeavoring to remember the truth.

D. Hear despairingly praying that the Word may become real to you.

2. Here Is A Proverb

(Mark 4:24) "And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given."

A. Those who desire to find fault will find faults

B. Those that seek truth learn it from those faithful to the truth

C. Those that bring faith receive assurance

D. Those who come joyfully are made glad

3. Here Is A Promise

(Mark 4:24) "And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given."

Those that hear shall have:

A. More desire to hear

B. More understanding of what you hear

C. More conviction from the truth that you hear
