Text Verse: Mark 6:6

(Mark 6:6) "And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching."

Introduction:

I believe that we have in our text one of the saddest stories in the New Testament. After growing up in Nazareth he returns and reads the Word of God in the synagogue to the which it is rejected.

1. Great Teaching (1-2a)

(Mark 6:1-2) "And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. {2} And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue:

2. Great Travesty (2b-3)

(Mark 6:2-3) "And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? {3} Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him."

3. Great Truth (4)

(Mark 6:4) "But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house."

4. Great Tragedy (5-6)

(Mark 6:5-6) "And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. {6} And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching."

This was found on an abandoned Cathedral wall in England.

You call me Master and Obey me not.
You call me Light and See me not.
You call me the Way and Walk me not.
You call me Life and Desire me not.
You call me Wise and Follow me not.
You call me Fair and Love me not.
You call me Rich and Ask me not.
You call me Eternal and Seek me not.
You call me Gracious and Trust me not.
If I do not Bless you, Blame me not.
