Text: Matthew 13:8 Luke 8:4-15 Mark 4:1-20

Introduction:

We find here that Jesus is in the very hight of His ministry. And as we see many are coming to Him to ministered to. And as we see from this parable many had come to see and hear Jesus. Notice:

1. A Sower

A. God is a sower

(Jer 31:27 KJV) "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast."

B. Christ is a sower

(Mat 13:37 KJV) "He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;"

C. Holy Spirit

D. Every Christian should be a sower.

(Mat 28:19-20 KJV) "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: {20} Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

(Mark 16:15 KJV) "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

1. We are saved to serve and to sow.

2. The Seed

a. The Word of God.

3. The Soils

a. Wayside hearer (closed minded)

1. Received by ear but never reaches the heart.

2. Seed is only on the surface.

b. Stoney ground hearer (emotional minded)

1. Seed is received, but does not take root.

2. The seed is on and in but not down.

3. This represents those that are easily excited and enthusiastic people, but whose hold or root is only superficial.

c. The thorny ground hearer (wandering mind)

1. The seed takes root but bears no fruit.

2. The seed is on, the seed is in, the seed is down, but it never comes up.

3. The seed takes hold but the hold is disputed and disturbed by opposition.

  • Cares of this world.

(Mark 4:19 KJV) "And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful."

  • Riches
  • Pleasures and other things

d. The good ground (steadfast understanding mind)

1. The seed is on, the seed is in, the seed is down, and the seed comes up.

2. The seed bears fruit.

(1 Cor 15:58 KJV) "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."

(Psa 1:1-3 KJV) "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. {2} But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. {3} And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
